A test of creative problem-solving — word links, insight puzzles, and pattern leaps, each with a right answer
About this assessment
An ability test of creative thinking, not a 'rate your creativity' quiz. It draws on Mednick's Remote Associates Test (a validated measure of creative, associative thinking), classic insight problems, and lateral letter/number series that reward a non-obvious leap. Every item has an objectively correct answer, so your score reflects creative problem-solving you actually demonstrate. Convergent creativity — finding the one idea that connects the dots — is what these items capture; it predicts real creative achievement and the 'aha' style of insight. For education and self-reflection.
Your result breaks down across 3 measured dimensions
For self-reflection and education — not a clinical diagnosis or substitute for professional support.

What this test measures
Your result is broken down across 3 distinct dimensions rather than collapsing everything into a single number. Each dimension is scored from its own set of items, so you can see which specific pattern is driving your overall result.
Remote Associations — measured across 8 items.
Insight & Lateral Thinking — measured across 8 items.
Creative Pattern-Finding — measured across 8 items.
How to read your result
Scores fall into one of 4 interpretive bands. Here is what each one means, what tends to sit underneath it, and what usually helps.
Literal Thinker
These puzzles ask you to break a frame and find a non-obvious connection, and most kept their answer hidden from you this time. That is a trainable skill, not a ceiling.
What it suggests Low scores often mean you locked onto the first, literal reading and did not loosen it. The subscale breakdown shows whether the word-association items, the insight riddles, or the pattern series cost you most.
What helps Creative thinking grows with exposure: when stuck, deliberately generate three "wrong" readings of the problem before answering. Remote-associates and insight puzzles especially reward stepping back from the obvious interpretation.
Flexible Thinker
You crack a fair share of these, especially when the leap is moderate. Tougher items, where the frame has to be fully reset, are where you tend to stall.
What it suggests A solid, common profile: real associative ability that runs out on the items demanding the biggest reframe. The breakdown shows which of the three styles is your strongest and which lags.
What helps Lean into your weaker style. If the pattern series tripped you, practice asking "what operation turns each term into the next?"; if the word links did, say the three words aloud and let unrelated associations surface.
Inventive Mind
You reliably find the hidden link and the non-obvious rule, including on harder items. Your mind connects distant ideas quickly — the engine of creative insight.
What it suggests Strong scores across styles indicate genuine cognitive flexibility: you reset the frame fast and search a wide associative space. The breakdown shows your sharpest mode of creative thinking.
What helps Channel this into output, not just puzzles: the same skill that links three words is what links a problem to an unexpected solution. Deliberately apply it to a real project where the obvious approach is stuck.
Exceptional Creative Thinker
You found the elegant connection on item after item, including the ones designed to mislead. This is top-tier convergent-creative performance on this assessment.
What it suggests Very high scores reflect a rare combination: a wide associative reach plus the discipline to land on the single answer that fits. This pattern is linked to real creative achievement and rapid insight.
What helps Your edge is generative: put this in front of genuinely open problems where there is no answer key. Pair it with people strong on execution, and protect unstructured time — that is when this kind of mind does its best work.
How this test is scored
Creative Thinking Test contains 24 items and takes about 10 minutes. Responses are combined using a sum method across the dimensions listed above, then mapped to the interpretive bands above. Your percentile is an interim estimate that sharpens as more people take the test, and is labelled as provisional in your result.
The test ships in 2 parallel forms that rotate between takes, so repeat visitors do not simply memorise the same items.
Limits of this assessment
This is an educational, self-reflective assessment — not a diagnosis. A questionnaire can describe a pattern and point you toward language for it, but it cannot account for your history, context, or circumstances, and it is not a substitute for evaluation by a qualified professional. If a result concerns you, treat it as a reason to talk to someone rather than as a verdict.
Your answers are scored on your device. Taking this test requires no account, no email address, and no payment, and your full result — every band, every dimension — is shown to you immediately and in full.
